In 2025 Australian Athletics and School Sport Australia will be hosting separate championships.
School Sport SA will be selecting athletes born in the years 2013, 2014 and 2015 for their 12 and under team travelling to Gold Coast, Queensland from Sunday 7 to Wednesday 10 September 2025.
They will also be selecting athletes for their 10 to 19 years multiclass team who hold a classification.

ELIGIBILITY & QUALIFICATION |
Qualification for the Individual National Championships is achieved through competing in Athletics SA events.
**Note: To be eligible for the State Team, athletes must hold a membership with an ASA recognised club.

ASA Cross Country Selection Policy
AGE CATEGORIES |
The age categories for the 2025 Cross Country Championships are:
- Under 11 - athletes must not have their eleventh birthday on or before 31st December 2025 (i.e. must be born in 2015).
- Under 12 - athletes must not have their twelfth birthday on or before 31st December 2025 (i.e. must be born in 2014).
- Under 13 - athletes must not have their thirteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2025 (i.e. must be born in 2013).
- Under 14 - athletes must not have their fourteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2025 (i.e. must be born in 2012).
- Under 15 - athletes must not have their fifteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2025 (i.e. must be born in 2011 ).
- Under 16 - athletes must not have their sixteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2025 (i.e. must be born in 2010).
- Under 17 - athletes must not have their seventeenthbirthday on or before 31st December 2025 (i.e. must be born in 2009).
- Under 18 - athletes must not have their eighteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2025 (i.e. must be born in 2008).
- Under 20 - athletes must not have their twentieth birthday on or before 31st December 2025 (i.e. must be born in 2006 or 2007).
- Open - athletes must be turning 16 years of age as at the 31st December 2025
- Masters - athletes 30yrs + as at the first day of competition (23 August 2025)
- Para - age groups will be Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, Under 20 and Open.
*Athletes MUST turn 10 in the year of competition to compete in these Championships. Athletes can only enter in one age group*

For the Australian Cross Country Championships, it is the responsibility of the athletes and coaches to manage their own travel, accommodation and transport to event.
Please also find the forms below relevant to your entry process. If you need to submit a Medical form please send it through to development@athleticssa.com.au
CROSS COUNTRY MIXED RELAY |
ASA do not have any involvement with organising teams for the Cross Country Mixed Relay taking place on Sunday 24th August 2025.
The relay will consist of teams of 2 men and 2 women each running one loop of the course. The order is Male, Female, Male, Female. All age groups (including UniSport) will have their relay on Sunday 24th August. Athletes can only compete in one team. Athletes must be 10yrs of age to compete in the Relay Championships. The minimum age for the Open relay is 12yrs in the year of competition.
Entries will be accepted from Clubs, Schools (Single sex schools need to combine) and Universities. University teams – to be eligible for a Unisport medal, must be made up of eligible university athletes (as defined by UniSport Australia). This will be done via an Athletics Australia online entry system, available on the Athletics Australia website.
The 2km lap will be used. The takeover zone will be 20m long of which the scratch line is the centre. No baton will be used. Entrance and exit of the takeover zone will be marked according to World Athletics rules.

Australian Cross Country Relay
State Team uniform can be purchased through Athletics SA's official supplier VIVA Global Teamwear.
The minimum requirement for our State Team uniform is the competition kit (top & bottoms).
Refer to the Technical Regulations for uniform requirements as they differ for open and under age athletes. SA athletes should wear their Athletics SA walkout polo to the venue and when not competing. When competing, athletes should wear their competition tee/singlet/crop top with Athletics SA tights or shorts.
