SPORTS INTEGRITY
What Is Sport Integrity?
Sport is an Australian way of life. It brings people together, transcending differences in language, ability, culture and beliefs, and provides physical, social and economic benefits. Threats to sports integrity include competition-manipulation, doping, and behaviours that impact people’s positive experience of sport, such as discrimination or abuse. Integrity in sport means that athletes, supporters and fans can participate and celebrate sport, confident in the knowledge that they are part of a safe, ethical and inclusive environment.
Athletics South Australia takes integrity seriously.
All our members and participants have an obligation to protect and maintain the integrity of sport, as well as the health and wellbeing of our athletes.
We work closely with Australian Athletics, who in turn work closely with Sport Integrity Australia, the federal agency established to prevent and deal with integrity threats in sport.
The Athletics SA Board has adopted the National Integrity Framework.

NATIONAL INTEGRITY FRAMEWORK
The National Integrity Framework (NIF) is a suite of policies that sets out how we should and shouldn't behave, and how matters are handled when a policy might have been breached. You can learn about and access the NIF policies using the table below:
NIF Policy |
What does it cover? |
| Member Protection Policy | Abuse, bullying, harassment, sexual misconduct, discrimination, victimisation, and vilification |
| Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy | Harm, abuse or neglect specifically relating to children or young people |
| Competition Manipulation and Sports Gambling Policy | Manipulation of competitions and illicit betting |
| Improper Use of Drugs and Medicines Policy | Use and possession of illegal drugs, provision of appropriate science and medicine services |
| Complaints, Disputes & Discipline Policy | Sets out the processes for reporting or making a complaint about a breach of any of the NIF policies |
| Code of Conduct | The expected standards of behaviour of everyone |
| Anti-Doping Policy | Circumstances and conduct which constitutes anti-doping violations |
Making a Complaint
"Have you got 5 minutes?". That's usually how a complaint or a report of misconduct starts.
Engaging in any complaint process is challenging at the best of times for the strongest of people. Sometimes a form makes it even more difficult. A conversation with a human might be an easier way to get started.
The main thing to know is that there is a place to raise questions, receive guidance and there is a complaints process that will be followed. Complaints and disputes are best handled at the level at which they occurred e.g. incident at club or squad training handled by club or squad leader; incident at Premiership Season or State competition handled by Athletics SA. For initial guidance please contact your Club’s Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) or Athletics SA MPIO Kurt Olsen on development@athleticssa.com.au or 08 8354 3477.
Complaints or reports relating to abuse, harassment, bullying, gambling, competition fixing or Code of Conduct breaches, can be reported confidentially to your Club or Athletics SA, as relevant, in writing using the form at Appendix 6 in the Code of Conduct. Athletics SA complaints or reports should be submitted to admin@athleticssa.com.au.
