Trengove Added to Olympic Team
Athletics Australia has this morning confirmed Athletics SA athlete Jessica Trengove’s nomination to the Australian Olympic Committee for selection in the Australian team for the London Olympic Games. After posting a surprise Olympic A Qualifying performance in Nagoya, Japan, in her first attempt at the marathon, Trengove has had to endure a nerve-racking wait for the close of the qualifying period. With only 3 spots available in the women’s marathon in London and with Trengove as the third fastest of the qualifier, she has had to endure what must have been an agonising wait whilst others Australians made their attempt on the qualifier.
Trengove will join Lisa Weightman and Benita Wilis on the start line in London as Australia’s field a full team of marathon runner, with Michael Shelley, Jeff Hunt and Martin Dent also added to the men’s marathon team. Trengove also joins fellow South Australian track and field athletes Henry Frayne (triple jumper now based in Brisbane) and Claire Tallent (walker based at the AIS) on the team for London.
Athletics SA would like to congratulate Jess Trengove and coach Adam Didyk on their achievement, along with Henry and Claire.
