Chemist Warehouse Adelaide Invitational upgraded to World Athletics Bronze status

Australia’s Olympic athletics hopefuls will receive an extra boost en route to Paris 2024, with the 2024 Chemist Warehouse Adelaide Invitational elevated to a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet.

The upgrade to the February 10 meet has been made possible with the backing of the City-Bay Fun Run Trust, who support the athletics community in South Australia.

The elevation in status holds paramount importance, as athletes seek crucial world ranking points which assists in qualification for the Olympic Games.

Along with the amplification of its significance within the global athletics calendar, it also heralds the introduction of prize money at the event, with the total pool at $25,000.

Tony Keynes, Trustee of the City-Bay Fun Run Trust said it was a delight to see the Chemist Warehouse Adelaide Invitational grow as the meet attracts both capacity crowds and world class talent.

“The Trust exists to support athletics in South Australia and is delighted to now contribute to the growth of the Chemist Warehouse Adelaide Invitational in 2024. We see that athletics is surging across the nation and we want to assist athletes in achieving their goals within the sport,” Keynes said.

Athletics Australia CEO Peter Bromley said it is fantastic to be able to offer Australia’s elite athletes an added opportunity, thanks to the collaboration of the South Australian athletics community.

“The realisation of this upgrade would not be possible without the support of the City-Bay Fun Run Trust, who have long contributed to the success of the sport in South Australia. With their support, our athletes will be one step closer to the pinnacle event and have access to more prize money,” Bromley said.

“We’re thrilled to be able to host such an esteemed meet alongside Athletics South Australia.”

Athletics South Australia CEO Shane Fuller said the support was crucial to continue the momentum around the popular meet.

“The elevation of the meet to World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level has been an objective since the first Invitational was successfully staged in February 2022,” Fuller said.

“We have been rapt that the South Australian athletics community has come out in numbers to see Australia’s best athletes perform and that we now have the support of a range of partners to bring the Bronze permit to life.

“The ability for our athletes to earn extra ranking points and prize money towards their Paris 2024 Olympic aspirationswhy we’ve worked so hard on this event.”

To celebrate the upgrade, Athletics Australia and Athletics South Australia will be offering 25% off all ticket sales until 11.30pm  ACDT on Friday, 15th December with the code BRONZE25. Tickets can be brought here.

The Chemist Warehouse Adelaide Invitational is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour, which offers prize money and world ranking points, which assists in qualification for the World Athletics Championships and the Olympic Games.

The meet is also the first in Australia’s four-meet Chemist Warehouse Summer Series, and is also supported by PUMA, Copyworld Toshiba, FIVEaa, Des’s Adelaide, and LK Law.
