The programs function is to bridge the gap between Athletics Australia’s Junior High-Performance standards or programs, and current SASI / NASS scholarships and selection in benchmark international level competition. A maximum of ten (10) athletes will be selected in tier 1 of the program based on the submission of the nomination form. There are also further tiers of the program which aim to help support more athletes to varying degrees, extending the reach and impact of the program.

Having a well-rounded program centred around long-term athlete development and support will allow the athlete and their coach to maximize their current training and performance development practices. The legacy for coach development will enhance the technical knowledge of coaches in providing best practice support networks to further build the talent pool.

This program will look to offer both training and education which will support athletes to attain the necessary learning opportunities to fully understand the demands of their event and performance readiness at an international level.

The program will address the four key areas for High Performing Athletes:

  • Physical,
  • Technical,
  • Tactical,
  • Mental.

The EAP is supported by the South Australian Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing. The program will be facilitated by Athletics South Australia and will engage a range of service providers to ensure that the athletes have access to the leading edge of Sports knowledge, facilities and technology.

To be considered for the Athletics SA Emerging Athlete Program Athletes, must show evidence against the performance matrix and the detailed submission of a complete Athlete nomination. A selection committee will rank all applicants against the criteria and assess the athlete nomination form.
