The Athletics SA Summer Season will run from October 2023 to March 2024, concluding with the Australian Athletics Championships held in Adelaide in April and will include the following events. Athletics SA offers a range of Track and Field events that are suitable for all ages and abilities (U14, U16, U18, U20, Open, Over 35, Over 50 and Para athletes).

ATHLETICS SA COMPETITIONS

Like most summer sports, Interclub is a competition where athletes compete for club points. Ten Interclub competitions are hosted throughout the summer season on a Saturday afternoon beginning at 12:30 PM. Each athlete represents their club and competes for premiership points. Copyworld Toshiba Interclub Premierships are awarded for each age category. 

As there are many disciplines within Athletics, Copyworld Toshiba Interclub is split into an A Program, and B Program.

Program A will take place at Interclubs 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, while Program B will be offered at Interclubs 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. 

Events offered at Interclub include
Walk: 1500m, 3000m and 5000m 
Run: 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m & 1500m 
Hurdles: Short - 80 to 110m, Long - 200m, 300m 400m, Steeplechase - 2000m & 3000m 
Throw: Discus, Shot Put, Hammer Throw and Javelin (Throws timetabling is determined by event overlap and choosing the safest pairing). 
Jump: High Jump, Triple Jump, Pole Vault and Long Jump 
Para: Throws/Seated Throws, Jumps, Running/Frame Running/Wheelchair 

Athletics SA provides opportunities for people to come out and have a go at the sport through Summer Series events. This is a great way to get involved in all aspects of the sport of Athletics. Each competition boasts a unique timetable and incorporates relays for single or multi-club teams and squads. The Summer Series events are also a great opportunity to learn and practice the various officiating roles involved across all track & field events. We encourage our athletes and spectators to engage with our officials and give timing, starting, raking, measuring and recording a go!

Running SA’s home for the middle-distance community offering night meets for distances of +800m. These are distance events run at ideal times to promote the growth of distance running from recreational to a national level.  

A Specialist opportunity designed with Athletics SA coaches to provide a unique event tailored for athletes with aspirations on the national/international stage. 

Athletics SA hosts a wide range of State Championship events through the Summer and Winter Seasons, where Medals and State Titles are up for grabs.  

The 2023/24 State Athletics Championships will be held on March 9-11 (Adelaide Cup long weekend) at the SA Athletics Stadium. As per the 2023 National Championships, the Top 3 place winners in their event/age group were eligible to compete at the Australian Athletics Championships. State Championships will also be held to decide State Relay, State Combined Event, State 3000m, 5000m and 10,000m titles.

The Adelaide Invitational is SA's premier World Athletics Challenger Meet. It was re-introduced to the Athletics SA calendar in February 2022 and attracted athletes such as Peter Bol, Rohan Browning, Riley Day, Michael Roeger and Bendere Oboya to Adelaide. Allowing our local athletes, such as Isobel Batt-Doyle, Matthew Clarke, Aidan Murphy, Courtney Smallacombe and Darcy Miller, to compete in a World Class event on their home track. 

Adelaide is proud to host the Australian Athletics Championships and combined events in 2024 from the 11th to the 19th of April.
