$6m redevelopment complete - SA Athletics Stadium

Published Tue 06 Dec 2022

The $6m upgrade of the SA Athletics Stadium is now complete, and ready for competition.

The redevelopment has included a synthetic track replacement (blue), security and access control system upgrades, a new venue entrance, new external changeroom and toilet facility (adjacent the back warm up area), and the new $370,000 LED video replay screen.

As part of the State Government's $6 million investment in stadium upgrades, the new track has been built to meet World Athletics specifications and will be a huge asset in continuing to attract world-class athletics events going forward.

This redevelopment forms part of a vision to revitalise the Mile End Sports Precinct, where the new South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) headquarters will be built.

The newly redeveloped SA Athletics Stadium will host the 2022 Australian All Schools Championships, which will be held from December 9-11.

Athletics SA CEO Shane Fuller said the stadium upgrade contributed to what is a very exciting time for athletics in the State.

“We are thrilled with the SA Athletics Stadium upgrade, which delivers a new state-of-the-art athletics surface and associated facilities for local athletes to access for competition and training," he said.

"The upgrade has helped our State attract and retain several National events, starting with the 2022 National All Schools in December, the 2023 Adelaide Invitational World Challenger Meet (February 11), and the 2024 Australian Track & Field Championships which doubles as the athletics selection trials for the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games."

Public training on the new track will commence on Tuesday, December 13 - check the Office of Recreation, Sport and Racing website for updated training times.
