ELIGIBILITY & QUALIFICATION

Elligibility and qualification for this National Championships is achieved through competing in Athletics SA Interclub and State Track and Field Championships competitions.

To qualify for an event you must have achieved the national qualifying standard set by Athletics Australia for this year or placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd at the State All Schools Championships, State Combined Events Championships or State Track and Field Championships.

*Note: If you meet eligibility via medalling at the State All Schools Championships, State Combined Events Championships or State Track and Field Championships it is strongly recommended that your performance level exceeds or is very close to the relevant national qualifying standard before considering registering for the Team.

**Note: To be eligible for the State Team, athletes must hold a membership other than Bronze with an ASA recognised club.

AGE CATEGORIES

The age categories for the 2023 Junior Australian Track and Field Championships are:

  • Under 13 - athletes must not have their thirteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2023 (i.e. must be born in 2011 or later).
  • Under 14 - athletes must not have their fourteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2023 (i.e. must be born in 2010 or later).
  • Under 15 - athletes must not have their fifteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2023 (i.e. must be born in 2009 or later).
  • Under 16 - athletes must not have their sixteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2023 (i.e. must be born in 2008 or later).
  • Under 17 - athletes must not have their seventeenth birthday on or before 31st December 2023 (i.e. must be born in 2007 or later).
  • Under 18 - athletes must not have their eighteenth birthday on or before 31st December 2023 (i.e. must be born in 2006 or later).
  • Para - age groups will be Under 15, Under 17.

The age categories for the 2023 Open & U20 Australian Track and Field Championships are:

  • Under 20 - athletes must not have their twentieth birthday on or before 31st December 2023 (i.e. must e born in 2005 or later).
  • Under 23 - athletes must not have their twenty-third birthday on or before 31st December 2023 (i.e. must be born in 2003, 2002, 2001).
  • Para - age group will be Under 20.

**Note: U13 athletes will compete in the U14 events under the relevant weight/height specifications and must meet the U14 entry standards.

For the Australian Track and Field Championships, it is the responsibility of the athletes and coaches to manage their own accommodation and transport to the Stadium each day for the competition.

State Team uniform can be purchased through Athletics SA's official supplier VIVA Global Teamwear.

The minimum requirement for our State Team uniform is the competition kit (top & bottoms) as well as the State Team polo. 

Refer to the Technical Regulations for uniform requirements as they differ for open and under age athletes. SA athletes should wear their Athletics SA walkout polo to the stadium and when not competing. When competing, athletes should wear their competition tee/singlet/crop top with Athletics SA tights or shorts (depending on whether in track, throws or jumps events).
