Athletics SA Awards Party an Overwhelming Success
Last Friday night saw Athletics SA introduce a revamped presentation evening, which is being hailed as a great success. Athletics SA believed the presentation night format was in desperate need of change as low levels of attendance in previous years and a stale format were beginning to erode some of the history and prestige associated with the awards. The new format included a 2 course sit down dinner and an appearance from Olympic marathon runner and Australian selector, Steve Moneghetti as guest speaker. Along with the traditional presentation of individual and club awards, the night also saw a door prize and a raffle.
The Athletics SA Awards Party saw 130 guests attend, which was more than double the number of attendees from the previous year. Remarkably, the 2011 edition was free to attend! In an entertaining night at “The Venue” (home of the West Adelaide Football Club), Steve Moneghetti kept the crowd entertained, whilst Athletics SA official, Anton Van Bavel, did an exceptional job as the MC.
Olympic marathon runner Jess Trengove took out the prestigious Athlete of the Year award, whilst her coach, Adam Didyk, was awarded the Coach of the Year. Western Districts Athletic Club scooped an incredible number of premierships and was a clear choice as Club of the Year. Details of all award winner appear below.
Given the overwhelming success of the evening, Athletics SA plans to continue with the format and looks forward to increasing the attendance.
