Meet 1 of the Synergy League was one week ago and now all eyes are on Meet 2 as a nail-biting finale awaits!

We catch up with a Synergy athletes Dylan Stenson, Max Stevens, Jess Bell, Liana Wesselingh, Margaret Gayen and Liam Moss as well as track official Peter Grant to get their take on the inaugural Synergy League

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FIRST THOUGHTS ON THE SYNERGY LEAGUE?

Dylan Stenson:
I loved Synergy, felt like I was racing in Europe with the atmosphere, music and general feel.

Max Stevens:

Fast, intimate, fun, exciting and quality athletes.

Jess Bell:
Synergy has been a fantastic way of both promoting athletics to the public and giving athletes a positive and engaging environment to compete in. I think it’s been really successful and people have really enjoyed being a part of it.

Liana Wesselingh:

This exciting explosive way to present some athletics events gives spectators a taste of what our athletes are capable of.

Margaret Gayen:

It's a great atmosphere, with the crowd so involved. It's also really fun getting around your team and wearing team colours.

Liam Moss:

It makes athletics fun, the colour, crowd and camaraderie add to the experience. It’s awesome to have a team feeling for what is normally an individual sport!

Peter Grant:

The Synergy League has been great. Athletes have been keen, happy and eager to compete.

WHAT HAVE YOU LOVED MOST ABOUT THE NEW FORMAT OF ATHLETICS?

Dylan Stenson:
I love having people on the track, I feel like it really help pump you up and I think spectators feel much more involved. Still need the work on my hi-5 skills. Also the cars, was pulled off very nicely.

Max Stevens:

The meet is quick, action packed and all the events were of a high standard. Allows the athletes to show their personality too and engage the crowd.

Jess Bell:

My favourite part has been having the crowd down on the track. It makes for a much more interactive and exciting competition, and helps the spectators understand what actually goes on in athletics. It also means you can get a pretty good clap going!

Liana Wesselingh:
Synergy League has given new exciting opportunities for athletics to grow and it has allowed athletes to come together as a team which doesn’t normally happen!

Margaret Gayen:

It's been a great way to introduce work colleagues and friends to athletics so that they can understand what I do every day and get excited about competitions too!

Liam Moss:

It’s a different type of competition, instead of trying to win your goal is to perform well to secure points for your team. The crowd involvement is significantly different as well, they are now supporting teams which creates an atmosphere we don’t normally see in a normal competition.

Peter Grant:

Mostly I have enjoyed the athletes' ownership of the contest. The team aspect driven by the close crowd has been great.

WHO HAS BEEN YOUR HIGHLIGHT PERFORMER SO FAR?

Dylan Stenson:
Caitlin in the 3km and Brian in the 400m. Caitlin smashed it solo and snagged herself a great time and plenty of team points. She loves to hurt and it's great to watch.

Max Stevens:

Caitlin Adams was hard to top. Highest point scorer of the night. Mens 400m was a great race.

Jess Bell:

It’s pretty hard to go past Caitlin Adams taking the win in the 3000m with a massive PB.

Liana Wesselingh:

There have been some epic performances from athletes across the board it’s hard to choose just one stand out, because it’s all so good!

Margaret Gayen:

I loved Molly Cook's finish in the 800 and Tiara Hatchard's super strong 400 in the relay!

Liam Moss:

It’s hard to pin point one performer after many strong performances by many athletes such as the inferno 1, 2 in the 1500 by Dylan Stenson and Will McCann, Jess bell in the Javelin or Margaret Gayen in the 200m. If I had to choose one though it’s got to be Sly The Fox, they've certainly won many fans in this competition. Sly’s performance in the men’s 100m with a 20m head start was outstanding!!!

Peter Grant:
Of course, who could forget Sly The Fox!

WHAT ARE YOUR FINAL WORDS FOR SPECTATORS OR TEAM MATES AHEAD OF MEET 2

Dylan Stenson:

Meets like this can bring out the best in athletes, this makes it exciting for everyone. PBs and fast performances will be on show his Friday. Conditions are looking perfect!

Max Stevens:

Encourage everyone to come out and support an exciting new event!

Jess Bell:

Everyone had better hold onto their hats, because Team Cyclone is coming back even better and stronger in Meet 2!! With some fantastic athletes yet to compete and even more 1.3 multipliers up for grabs, we’re going to take the track by storm!

Liana Wesselingh:

Would be fantastic if people can get around this as all teams are in full preparation for meet 2 and it will be a nail biting finish to see which team comes out on top!

Margaret Gayen:
Get keen because it's going to be electrifying!

Liam Moss:

Things are heating up, I just hope the other teams have the right equipment to put this raging INFERNO out!!

Peter Grant:
Bring on Meet 2 - It's going to be exciting!

Meet 2 kicks off from 6:45pm at SA Athletics Stadium this Friday March 9.
